About Our Mission
Keep Walton Ferry Green is a community-led initiative working to preserve one of the last open green spaces on the Walton Ferry/Sanders Ferry peninsula. These 15 acres beside the Arboretum and across from Hawkins Middle School represent a once in a lifetime chance to protect natural land in an area where open space has become increasingly limited. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
Why This Land Matters
A Rare Open Space
These 15 acres are one of the last large undeveloped areas on the Walton Ferry/Sanders Ferry peninsula. The land sits beside the Arboretum with views toward Old Hickory Lake. It's natural space that neighbors still enjoy driving past, walking near, and imagining as a future community green space.
Risk of Development
This property is zoned residential and could be sold for subdivision development. Once built on, the open space, wildlife habitat, and natural character of this part of the peninsula would be gone permanently. Preserving it now gives our community the chance to shape a better long-term outcome.
What We're Doing
We’re working to secure long-term protection for this land through a mix of community support, fundraising, grants, and potential partnerships. Our goal is simple: to preserve these 15 acres as natural space for future generations.To move this work forward responsibly and transparently, we are forming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and will begin accepting donations soon. This will allow us to explore every viable path toward conservation while keeping the community informed at every step.

However you show up, it matters.We also meet at 6 PM on the second Monday of each month at Hendersonville Church of the Nazarene on Luna Ln for community updates, questions, and planning.
